OUR GOD IS GRACIOUS!

Dear Lord, I pray that you sanctify my spirit, soul and body as I read your word in Jesus name.

Jeremiah 31:1-22
Meditation Question
►Q1: What does the passage teach about God the Father, or God the Son or God the Holy Spirit?
►Q4: Is there any promise for me to believe or hope for?
Scripture Union Daily Guide 6th March 2026 Outline
Go through the passage again carefully. Observe the promises of hope, consolation, and restoration that are there. What does this teach you about God? An African Proverb says, “You may smack a child with the right hand, but you still draw him close with the left.” Such is our God. As a loving father, he punishes our disobedience ( Jeremiah 31:20; Hebrews 12:5-6), but He is not a sadist, who derives pleasure in punishing His children.
Read Jeremiah 31:3,4,9,20 again. Note that in the past, God told Israel, “I have loved you with an everlasting love.” Even when He was angry with them that did not change. He still calls them, “my people,” “my virgin Israel,” “my firstborn son,” “my dear son,” and “the child in whom I delight.” What a gracious God! This is a picture of how God sees us in Christ. When God forgives us, he sees us as if we have never sinned. This is the doctrine of justification. But God’s promise of reconciliation and restoration is dependent on our repentance. As long as we stay in our sins, and rebellion, and away from God, we will have no hope of restoration (Jeremiah 31:19).
